Monument on the place where Idvor was founded in 1690.
At Pupins present, Idvor
was only a village on the border whose citizens defended
the impery from Turks. Founded in Banat, inhabitted by
Serbian runaways who came here leaded by Carnojevic in
XVII century running from the Turks across the Danube,
Idvor was now between two
countries, two cultures, religions ans life styles. This
village was founded in 1690. on a small hill north from
where today's village stands. This position was chosen
because of the strategical reasons, so that they could
defend themselves from Turks.

house of Mihajlo Pupin (the first one from the left)
This is why
people lived in dug-out houses which weren't easy to be
seen. This was also the place of the first Idvor's church,
which was the brick-monument inside of which was the Icone
of mother of Christ.
Church in Idvor
Inside of it
The Church Icon got the light from oil-sodden flame which
sybolised "the eternal flame". Since the founding
of Idvor till the birth of its most famous citizen passed
more that century and a half. This period was filled with
great historical events.
In Europe at the end of XVII century, Turkish impery became
to be weak, especiall after the defeat in Vienna in 1683.
The weakening of this impery lasted for 2 centuries. People
in the military-area defended Austria's impery from "Patient
from the Bosphor",
but also from the Italy and Napolen, and
these soldiers were remembered in people`s stories. Before
the time Pupin was born there was also The first Serbian
uprising and the great person of these ages was the leader
of Serbian rebelians Šorše Petrovię - Karašorše.
National home of Mihajlo Pupin
About all these events Mihajlo
was listening on evening parties in his home, surrounded
by old men and border guards - so called "guards
of wisdom", as he named them later.
Pupin's Idvor today, with 6 villages more, is a part of
the municipality of Kovačica, which stands in the southern
Banat, between Pančevo and Zrenjanin.
The
Mihajlo Pupin's born house is completly reconstructed
