Since he wanted to learn
about experimental physics, Mihajlo went to university
of Friedrich Wilchelm in Berlin, to see physicist Herman
fon Hlemholtz. He defined the method about keeping the

explaned phisiological sence of the colours in the
light, music and speech. Many great scientists worked
in his laboratory. His student H.Hoertz defined bases
of the Farradeys and Maxwell's theory. Considdering
his contributinon, the old emperor gave him the title
of "exellence". The whole science-world
and intellectual elite had a great respect for Hoelmholtz.
|
In his biography Pupin says about him:
"Deep pores and venes on his forehead made him look
as a phylosopher and shy, but in his eyes you could see
someone who wants to know everything about the secrets
of the nature.

His forehead
was huge, just as his neck and chests. His arms and legs
were short but well-shaped, and his mouth showed one good
and noble soul. He didn`t talk a lot, but all his words
were nice, and his questiones direct”.

Beside Hoelmholtz's
and Kirchhoff's lecturing, Pupin attended also: "The
theory of elastic and firm things", "dynamics","electromechanic",
"theory of light","Physical chemistry",
"Analytical mechanics", "Mathematical physics"
and others.
During 4 years in Berlin, Hoelmholtz`s laboratory-experiments

and advice about
electromagnetical theory of Farradey and Maxwell, made
Pupin's last dilemma clear. Using his knowledge, experience
and suggestions of his professor, he gave the conclusion
that light is fine flickering of electricity. That theory
affirmed everything he knew about the light: from Njegoš
to the Cambridge lectures. Fascinated with this, Pupin
visited his mother once again, for the last time at the
end of the third year of studies. The same year 1888.
he got married in London with Sarah Katherine. He graduatet
the doctor disertation on 20.6.1889. on the subject "Osmotic
pressure and its relation with free energy".
|
After this he went to America with his wife in 1889.
The doors of Columbia were now widely open for doctor
Mihajlo Pupin.
